About EcoLog Building Kits

We offer comprehensive kits to provide the complete shell of your cottage, cabin, residential home or commercial building. EcoLog homes are available from 500 to 3,000 sqft.

For the walls and roof we use Hemlock, which is often overlooked and underutilized by builders, although it has a century old tradition in timberframe and log construction. Hemlock is inexpensive, durable and insect resistant, and it is one of the hardest of all softwoods, especially as it dries. Its warm, honey colored wood gives EcoLog homes a friendly and welcoming character.

Our building kits always include the following:

• Development of a custom floor plan design including basement/foundation
• Custom floor plans approved by an Engineer in Ontario or British Columnbia
• 10 courses of 8"-squared wall timbers, pre-cut to design, resulting in 8'2" high walls
• Engineered 4"x10" heavy roof trusses. The unique roof truss assembly, spanning 24', covers the length of the building at 4' intervals. Additional trusses at either end of the building provide a 4' overhang. Extensions included in the kit will provide a protective overhang on each side. The result is a steep pitched roofl, a spacious second floor/loft area, and high, vaulted ceilings.

• Wall insulation, hardware, log chinking and hemlock boarding for the roof

• A detailed assembly manual with step by step instructions and working drawings

Additional options and add-ons are

• Flared roof to extend roof overhang
• Extra course of timbers to extend wall hight to 9'
• Structural material for covered or open patios and decks
• Seismic upgrade for earth quake endangered areas
• Use of Douglas Fir instead of Hemlock

The square-timber wall logs and plain box-joint corners make EcoLog Homes easy to erect and maintain. The end product is a rustic and charming building you will be proud of at an affordable price. 

We work closely with our clients to provide the final professional drawings necessary for building and health permits.

At your request we can also supply roofing materials, windows, doors and flooring. While we have a number of sample log building designs available, ranging from 500 square foot cottages to 3,000 square foot homes, we always enjoy working with our clients to customize a building to their specific needs.
